GIORGIO ARMANI Maestro UV skin defense primer SPF 50 PA++ Review

Today I will be reviewing Maestro UV skin defense primer from Italian brand Giorgio Armani, which I purchased for 50.40€ from Feelunique.

As you know, using a high SPF product on a daily basis helps protect your skin and prevent aging. However, wearing a sunscreen, especially a heavily scented one can be very uncomfortable for some people. For this reason I am constantly trying out new products, hoping to find a my holy grail that will work well with my skin.

Maestro UV skin defense primer is quite expensive compared to similar products which offer sun protection, considering that it comes in just a 30ml size bottle.

The product is packaged in a black paper box:

According to the manufacturer’s website:

“Giorgio Armani Beauty has reinvented everyday skin protection with Giorgio Armani Maestro UV Skin Defense Primer SPF 50.
Giorgio Armani Maestro UV Skin Defense Primer SPF 50 is a protective wonder for your skin, it blends high UV protection and antioxidant action, concentrating these two properties within a transparent, extremely fine texture.

Thanks to its fluidity, Giorgio Armani Maestro UV Skin Defense Primer SPF 50 instantly becomes one with the skin. Worn on its own or under make-up, you’ll forget it’s even there. The result is absolutely stunning. MAESTRO UV Make-up Primer is used outdoors whenever your skin is exposed to the sun. It’s suitable for all skin types – even the most sensitive.“

The full list of ingredients is:

Alkyl Benzoate, Aqua / Water, Butylene Glycol, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Vinyl Dimethicone/methiconesilsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Isononyl Isononanoate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Glycerin, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Pentylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Tocopherol, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Polyglyceryl-2 Isostearate, Limonene, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Parfum / Fragrance, Tetrasodium Edta, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hexyl Cinnamal.

The primer comes in a white glass bottle with a black plastic dropper. I have to say that the heavy glass bottle is very impractical and it is quite difficult to retrieve the liquid out of it with the dropper included.

Here is a picture of the product with its bottle and dropper:

It is advised to shake the bottle well before use, which I did.

As you can see in the picture, the color of the liquid is whitish. However, it isn’t evenly white at all – it appears as if this was a transparent soft watery liquid mixed with something thicker and white.

This explains why the bottle needs to be shaken, otherwise you would be getting just a transparent liquid with traces of white.

The liquid is very runny and oily. It’s almost like water, but thicker. My entire hand became oily after I dropped the product on my wrist.

When applied to the skin it’s completely clear. Yes, the product has a slight, very slight, white tint when it comes out of the dropper, but once you start applying it to your face it disappears completely. There is no white-cast.

The product has a very strong smell, which reminds me of a pine. I don’t like it.

Since I have a sensitive, acne-prone oily skin, this product is not for me. As soon as I applied it all over my face, red pimples appeared and it made my skin look like as if I dived into oil.

It might be a perfect product for someone who likes strong fragrance and has a dry skin.

For me, it makes my skin too shiny and oily and the smell is very uncomfortable.

Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend this product.
