GUERLAIN Abeille Royale Double R Renew & Repair Serum Review

This will be a review of Guerlain’s serum, which is a part of their Abeille Royale range. As everyone knows, bee products are some of the world’s most effective natural revitalizing substances. According to Guerlain, their company has been working continuously with honeys and royal jelly to create Abeille Royale: a skincare programme that scientifically proves their exceptional capacity to minimize the visible signs of ageing on skin.

The Abeille Royale range includes numerous products, each of them comes in a very cute bee-inspired packaging and is packed with honey and royal jelly.

I purchased the Double R Renew & Repair Serum at an airport, without any prior research. I was impressed with it’s appearance and this was enough to convince me to buy it.

It is one of those products that looks luxurious with its gold detailing, yet you wonder whether it will really deliver.

As you can see, it is a multitasking product. It’s one serum, but it contains two chambers filled with different actives. One side is focused on peeling away the dull, dead skin, while the other side lifts.

Here is Guerlain’s description of the product and its properties:

”Guerlain’s Double R Renew & Repair serum combines the ultimate age-defying technology from Abeille Royale with a soft-peel treatment for highly effective action on the visible signs of aging: loss of skin elasticity and firmness, wrinkles, dull skin, imperfections and large pores. – Its soft-peel formula provides a “new skin” effect which promotes the renewal cycle of the epidermis without irritating the skin. – Its “lifting-effect” formula offers the skin exceptional benefits from our exclusive active ingredients: Royal Jelly and Black Bee Honey from the Island of Ouessant. The results: the face looks fuller and its contours more refined. The skin texture is smoothed, wrinkles and pores are minimized, and the complexion glows. Day after day, the skin becomes more radiant. Application: apply to the face and neck in the morning and evening before using your cream.”

I’ve been using this serum for the past few months and the bottle is almost empty at this point. So I feel confident to share my experience with you.

The product has a very nice, but strong smell. Therefore, it isn’t suitable for people who don’t like the feel of fragrance on their skin.

According to the manufacturer, you need to apply it to face and neck, morning and night, before using your cream. It needs to be done with both hands at the same time starting in the middle of the face and moving outward from the chin, the nose and the middle of the forehead.

Unfortunately, the gel-like liquid is too thick and quite difficult to spread around my face and neck. Even after taking just a minimal amount of a single pump, my skin feels extremely sticky all the time and the product never really absorbs into my skin.

I have a very oily skin with acne and this serum simply isn’t for me.

It’s so sticky, I am unable to put any other skincare product on my face.

Howevever, I can also feel the exfoliating properties and it stings a little.

Just to finish the entire bottle, I have been using it as an exfoliator, which I wash off after 10-20 minutes, because I wouldn’t be able to wear it as a serum for the entire day.

I definitely don’t recommend it to women with oily skin.
