AMIRA Magic Skin Whitening Cream 15g
I purchased AMIRA Magic Skin Whitening Cream while visiting the Philippines from a local Watsons store because I wanted to explore more affordable Asian skincare products. The packaging looked appealing and I was hoping to find a lightweight everyday moisturizer that would hydrate the skin while giving a brighter complexion. Unfortunately, my experience with this cream ended up being very disappointing.
The first thing I noticed was how extremely oily and heavy the texture is. Instead of absorbing into the skin like a normal moisturizer, the cream just sits on top of the face in a thick greasy layer. Even after waiting quite a while, it still felt sticky, uncomfortable and suffocating on the skin. It gave my face a shiny, almost waxy appearance rather than a healthy glow. For anyone with oily or combination skin, I honestly think this product would feel unbearable during daytime use.
Another major issue for me was the scent. The cream has a strong artificial fragrance that immediately reminded me of cheap sunscreen. It has that heavy, slightly chemical sunscreen smell that lingers for a long time after application. I found the fragrance quite irritating and unpleasant, especially because it stays noticeable on the skin instead of fading away quickly. If you are sensitive to heavily scented skincare products, this may become bothersome very fast.
I also did not enjoy how the product felt physically on the skin. Rather than feeling moisturizing or nourishing, it felt occlusive and uncomfortable, almost like applying a layer of oily balm that never properly sets. Because it does not absorb well, it also made my skin feel hotter and heavier throughout the day. Layering makeup on top was nearly impossible because the surface remained greasy and slippery.
To be fair, the product is very affordable and easy to find in stores like Watsons, which is probably why many people are tempted to try it. However, personally I think the formula feels outdated compared to many modern Asian moisturizers that absorb quickly and leave a lightweight finish. I went into this expecting a simple affordable moisturizer, but instead it felt more like a thick oily whitening cream with an overpowering sunscreen-like scent.
Full ingredient list: Water, Isopropyl Myristate, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Dimethicone, Morus Alba (Mulberry) Fruit Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Chamomilla Recutita (Chamomile) Extract, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Disodium EDTA, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7.
Overall, this product was not suitable for my skin type or preferences at all. I would not repurchase it, especially because there are many other affordable Asian skincare products available now that feel far more elegant, lightweight and comfortable on the skin.
